Join us on Saturday, September 6, for an extended opportunity to cultivate liberating insight under the guidance of a true master. Ajahn Da is an ordained Thai Forest Monk. He has been teaching meditation for over 40 years and was a close student of Thai meditation master Luangpor Teean Jittasubho. Before coming to America, Ajahn Da served as Abbott of the Thatkong monastery near the Laos border in Thailand, and is now Abbott of the Center for Mindfulness & Insight Meditation in Redding, CT. Phra Tavivat Sukhavatthano also studied under Luangpor Teean. He first brought Luangpor Teean’s lineage of insight meditation to the United States more than 30 years ago. Tavivat is also the author of many publications in Thai and English including the book, “To One That Feels.”
Ajahn Da and Phra Tavivat practice a form of vipassana known as Mahasati Insight meditation. It makes use of an old Burmese meditative hand movement as the anchor for meditation, but the core teaching is the same as more familiar forms of vipassana practice, and participants in the retreat are free to use mindfulness of the breath if they prefer.
This retreat is suitable for both new and experienced meditators. While the Saturday retreat will be conducted mostly in silence, it will include talks by the teachers, and discussion periods, in both the morning and afternoon. Attendees are asked to bring a bag lunch. A refrigerator and microwave are available, and coffee and tea will be served.
