Through a vipassanā oriented Dhamma practice, we are learning to make the most of this fleeting life that we’ve been given. We are practicing bringing attention to our life as it is actually unfolding in the present moment rather than being carried away by imaginings of the past or future. In bringing awareness to our life in the present moment, we come to see that what is taking place now is doing so simply based on past causes and current conditions. The present moment simply is what it is, based on the laws of cause and effect, therefore open-hearted acceptance is the only sane way to relate to it. Yet, this moment is also where the seeds of future causation are planted, both through the way we are engaged with this moment, and through the intentional thoughts, words and actions we produce in the moment. This is the law of karma in action.
In this half-day retreat, we will discuss how our practice, and an understanding of karma, can help us honor the opportunity this life offers us, no matter how challenging it may be at times.
This retreat is open to both beginners and experienced meditators. While it will be conducted mainly in silence, there will be brief instructions in vipassanā meditation available, an introductory Dhamma talk, and a discussion period at the end.
