This retreat is highly recommended and provides an excellent opportunity to deepen your meditation practice by allowing you to cultivate self-awareness for an extended period under the guidance of true meditation masters. This will be our last opportunity for extended practice with Ajahn Tavi before he travels back to Thailand later this fall.
This retreat is open to both beginning and experienced practitioners.
Teachers:
Luangpor Da is an ordained Thai Forest Monk who has been teaching for decades. He was a close student of Thai Master, Luangpor Teean, and is currently Abbott of our center in Redding, CT.
Ajahn Tavivat studied under Luangpor Teean as a lay practitioner. It is Ajahn Tavivat who first brought Luangpor Teean’s method of insight meditation to the United States more than 30 years ago. He is also the author of many publications in Thai and English including the book To One That Feels.
Michael Bresnan is a licensed psychologist, founder of the Center for Mindfulness and Insight Meditation/Wat Sati-Ma in Redding, CT, founder of Wenham Insight Meditation Center in Wenham, MA, and author of Awareness in Action: A Practitioner’s Guide to Mahasati Insight Meditation. He has been practicing Mahasati Insight Meditation for over 30 years.
Dhamma Talks and Q&A:
While the retreat will be conducted mainly in silence, there will also be Dhamma talks and question and answer periods.
Private Interviews:
As is the tradition with meditation retreats, all attendees will have a private interview period with the teachers as a further aid to their practice.
Meals Provided:
There will be catered meals from Thai Pepper restaurant, including lunch and dinner on Saturday, and lunch on Sunday. For anyone staying overnight, simple breakfasts will be provided on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Breakfasts will consist of breads, cereals, milks and fruit. A full kitchen is available for those who wish to bring their own food.
Lodging Options:
This retreat will take place at the Center for Mindfulness & Insight Meditation in Redding, CT.
Many local attendees will probably choose to commute from home for this retreat, though there are a few beds at the Center that can be reserved on a first come basis by those traveling from afar. Out-of-town participants may also request a list of nearby accommodations by contacting Redding@CfMIM.org. Alternatively, there is space available on the grounds, for those who wish to pitch a tent, or inside on the floor for those who would like to “camp out” for the retreat.
Registration:
Please note CfMIM Redding is in the middle of a fundraising campaign that’s needed to maintain our center. If you’re able to offer more with your registration, it helps us cover the costs of replacing the boiler that heats our dhamma hall. Every contribution helps, no matter the size!
